The late 1990’s was an exciting time to be involved in tracking and field craft. The nation was not yet at war and the phenomenon produced by 9-11 that gave rise to an ocean of “experts” in every tactical discipline had not yet begun. While this sounds negative and a reader of history might wonder why it’s necessary to acknowledge these less than admirable traits within the community, it’s a foundational skill in the field to assess situations and provide SITREPS (Situation Reports) based on truth. Truth gives perspective and allows us to learn from our mistakes and to do better by making course corrections.
